Washington, Muharram 13, 1436, November 06, 2014, SPA -- U.S. President Barack Obama is requesting $6.2 billion from Congress in emergency funding to fight the Ebola epidemic. The money would cover spending to confront the deadly disease at its source in West Arica and to secure the United States against any possible spread. Obama administration officials said Wednesday the money would be apportioned into $2.4 billion to the Health Department and almost $2 billion for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). More than $1.5 billion would be for a contingency fund. The Ebola funding is the first request from Obama in the aftermath of an election that gave Republicans control of both chambers of Congress and that is widely perceived as a repudiation of the president’s policies. --SPA 11:50 LOCAL TIME 08:50 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
