Geneva, Dec. 11, 2019, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirmed that it attaches the utmost importance to the promotion and respect of the international humanitarian law, which comes in line with its consistent and supportive stands for the international charters and institutional treaties of the international humanitarian law, including four Geneva conventions. Speaking before the 33rd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva, the Kingdom’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, said that the Kingdom, has taken steps, at the national level and through the permanent committee of the international humanitarian law, to enhance domestic awareness of the international humanitarian law and spread its provisions among the State's institutions and all segments of the society. He pointed out that the Kingdom has established a legal team at the Ministry of Defense to ensure the promotion and respect of the international humanitarian law. Al-Wasil highlighted the Kingdom's participation in many regional and international forums aimed at promoting international humanitarian law, pointing out that the entire world, including our region, is witnessing many crises and conflicts that require concerted international efforts to develop political solutions. He stressed that the Kingdom is committed to humanitarian principles, adding that it has taken many initiatives that contributed to develop solutions to some crises and supported the efforts of international organizations and bodies to reduce the effects of armed conflicts and natural disasters in some regions in the world. He indicated that the Kingdom's contributions, during the current year, amounted to about USD2.1 billion, while King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has established the project for clearing mines (Masam) and the rehabilitation project for recruits and those affected by armed conflict in Yemen. --SPA 20:50 LOCAL TIME 17:50 GMT 0034 www.spa.gov.sa/w1227077
