Siamese Twins Separation Surgery Starts at King Abdullah Specialized Children Hospital

Riyadh, Rabi'II 20, 1439, January 07, 2018, SPA --The medical and surgical team, headed by Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabi'ah started today the separation surgery for Palestinian Siamese twins Farah and Haneen at King Abdullah Specialized Children Hospital in Riyadh. The surgery comes in implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defense to transfer the Siamese twins to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Mohammed Al-Namshan, Pediatric Surgery Consultant and a member of the surgical team said that the surgery started at 8 a.m., goes through nine stages, and takes up to 15 hours. Dr. Al Namshan added that Farah doesn't have necessary organs to live, as she doesn't have a normal heart, lungs, and trachea and also has cerebral atrophy, therefore she will be treated as a parasitic twin. --SPA 14:17 LOCAL TIME 11:17 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w582120
