Saudi Ambassador to Egypt: Kingdom Tops World in Supporting Refugees

Cairo, Rabi'I 5, 1438, Dec 4, 2016, SPA -- Saudi Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Kingdom's permanent representative to the Arab League and Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Qattan has confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of the world, providing generous assistance to the refugees since its inception, based on the principles of the Islamic religion, which calls for love and peace and urges to provide help and relief for the affected and the needy without racial or religious discrimination. In a statement made today by the Saudi Embassy in Cairo, he indicated that the Kingdom occupies the first place globally in the proportion of official development aid, which amounts to 1.9% of its gross national income, exceeding the target of the United Nations which is 0.7% according to the report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), issued in 2016, and the occupies fourth place globally among donor countries, pointing out that humanitarian aid provided by the Kingdom during the past four decades have amounted to about $ 139 billion, benefiting more than 95 countries. Ambassador Qattan appreciated the efforts being exerted by King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid established in May 2015, and through it the Kingdom provided humanitarian support for 19 affected countries, adding that the assistance provided by the Centre amounted to $ 600 million since its inception until now, in addition to establishing 52 humanitarian projects in the areas of food security, shelter, and camp coordination and management, which benefited about 22 million people.
