Geneva, Dhu-AlHijjah 17, 1437, Sep 19, 2016, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia denounced the flagrant violations of human rights daily being committed by Houthi militias and forces loyal to deposed president Saleh who usurped power in Yemen with direct support of Iran. This came in a speech delivered by Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva ambassador Faisal bin Hasan Trad before the Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva today. All reports verify Iran's repeated illegal interference in the Yemeni crisis, he said, citing its provision of weapons and ammunition as well as military expertise to them, drawing the attention that the Kingdom has recently lodged a protest to the United Nations Security Council on Iran's breaches and violations of the international legitimacy resolutions, including the resolution No. 2216 regarding prevention of exporting weapons to coup-makers. Trad added that the Houthi rebels have dared to kill and displace the Yemeni people, particularly children, whereas as many as 647 children have been killed by culprits and nearly 400,000 children have been deprived from their right to education due to the leveling of about 959 educational institutions and more than 189 child taken hostage. This is in addition to using children and women as human shields and thousands remained missing or forcibly arrested. The ambassador said that the militias' greediness was not satisfied with destroying the potentials and capabilities of the Yemeni people but dared to touch the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia whereas the militias continued, since seizing power in Sanaa, to launch systematic attacks on the Saudi territories, killing civilians, displacing the population and destroying the properties. The civil victims inside the territories of the Kingdom have reached 458 persons, 7479 displaced and 1742 private, commercial and governmental facilities destroyed. The militias have launched so far 52955 shells and missiles on the Saudi territories, he said. He said that his country has authenticated and recorded all such violations and submitted them in a report to the High Commissioner but regrettably, his report on the human rights case in Yemen ignored those violations. Trad demanded the world community to correct this situation in the nearest chance. He also demanded the world community to assist the legitimate government in Yemen against those rebels and not to give the rebels any chance through international hints or gesture that might be interpreted as a recognition of their legitimacy. He also called on the world community and the Commissioner's office to provide support for the Yemeni national investigation committee to complete it work on investigating human rights violations in all parts of Yemen. --SPA 22:44 LOCAL TIME 19:44 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
