Riyadh, Shawwal 07, 1436 AH, July 23, 2015, SPA -- The Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, strongly condemned Iraqi Vice President Nuri al-Maliki's remarks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, describing the remarks as irresponsible, false and heinous accusations that do not help to strengthen the Gulf-Iraqi relations. Dr. Al-Zayani said these provocative and unrealistic statements come within the known efforts of Al-Maliki exposed to all to sabotage Iraq's relations with Arab brethren, and separate it from its natural Arab surroundings in the service of the foreign interests unrelated to Iraqi national interests, commending the clarifications issued by the Iraqi Presidency and government on their positions in this regard. The Secretary General stressed that the positions and sincere efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other GCC states in the fight against terrorism make them at the forefront of countries in this regard, noting that these efforts include the participation of the Kingdom and the GCC states effectively in the international coalition to fight ISIS terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria to help strengthening the Iraqi defense capabilities that preserve Iraq's unity, security and stability, and protect its Arab people, stressing the keenness of the GCC countries to strengthen their relations with brotherly Iraq after years of tension resulting from the policies adopted by Al-Maliki. -- SPA 16:14 LOCAL TIME 13:14 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
