"The important thing is to attempt to seek out a peaceful resolution," she said in reference to Japan's ties with China and Republic of Korea. Germany had reconciled with its own World War II foes because it "squarely faced its past," Merkel said in the question-and-answer session after her lecture at the Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in Tokyo.
