Washington, Rabi'II 15, 1436, February 04, 2015, SPA -- The United States and Jordan on Tuesday signed a document formalizing increased levels of U.S. assistance to the kingdom, reflecting the “strategic partnership and the United States’ firm commitment to Jordan’s stability,” the State Department said. The memorandum of understanding, signed in Washington by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, demonstrates the intention to increase U.S. aid to the government of Jordan from $660 million to $1 billion annually for the next three years to support “long-term development and security efforts,” the department said in a statement. The increase in U.S. assistance also “is designed to address Jordan’s short-term, extraordinary needs, including those related to regional instability and rising energy costs,” the statement said. --SPA 11:57 LOCAL TIME 08:57 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
