Washington, Dhu-AlQa'dah 14, 1435, September 09, 2014, SPA -- The United States on Monday urged Afghanistan’s presidential candidates to respect and accept the results of the election audit process. Candidate Abdullah Abdullah on Monday said that ballot-rigging denied him victory against his rival Ashraf Ghani, even though “Dr. Abdullah has indicated consistently that he will abide by the constitution,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters. Abdullah asked his supporters “to remain calm in the coming days and to refrain from violence as the process continues to unfold,” Psaki said. “In our view, the audit process is still ongoing.” --SPA 10:59 LOCAL TIME 07:59 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
