Al-Jubeir: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Have Had Historical Relations Span over 70 Years

Islamabad, 18 February 2019 SPA -- Minister of the State for Foreign Affairs and Member of the Cabinet Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir reaffirmed the depth of the Saudi-Pakistani relations, throughout 70 years. During a joint press conference held here today with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Al-Jubeir said that the two countries cooperate together and seek to overcome problems, in the region, adding that there is a common desire to consolidate and expand these historical relations. Al-Jubeir pointed out that the meetings held between His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defense and the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan dealt with many issues and were fruitful, reasserting that the two countries co-signed agreements and memoranda of understanding, that would contribute to the investment of about $20 billion, in Pakistan, in various fields. He stressed the importance of strengthening relations between businessmen in the two countries in order to open wider horizons for furthering relations. in all fields, pointing out to a formation of the Saudi-Pakistani Coordination Council. Al-Jubeir confirmed that the Kingdom and Pakistan face several challenges, which can only be overcome through joint cooperation, combating terrorism and supporting regional security and stability. He also emphasized that terrorism is a common enemy and that Pakistan, the Kingdom and the United States are working together to combat that danger, indicating that Iran is the "haven of terrorists" and the last country that can accuse others of terrorism. The Kingdom is working with Pakistan to reach a settlement between the Taliban and the Afghan government, he added, as it wants a peaceful solution to the Afghan crisis, he remarked. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs expressed surprise at Iran's accusation that Pakistan was behind a recent attack on the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, in the Iranian city of Zahedan. "Everyone condemns terrorism in all forms and everyone must take a firm stand against terrorism and stop making accusations, in this way," he explained. "Such accusations are surprising by Iran, which has long incited terrorism and practiced in other countries such as Yemen and Syria, in addition to harbor al-Qaeda terrorists, on its soil," al-Jubeir underscored. For his part, Qureshi said that the two countries decided to hold meetings of the Coordination Council, at the level of the ministries every six months, and the working groups meetings to be held every three months, while the leaders of the two countries are to meet, at least once a year, to follow up the executive procedures.
