Saudi Arabia Affirms Its Keenness to Protect and Promote Human Rights and Renews its Commitment to International Conventions 2 Geneva

On the Syrian crisis, Al-Aiban confirmed that, since the outbreak of the crisis, the Kingdom has received about 2.5 million Syrian citizens and has endeavored to preserve their dignity and safety, grant them freedom of movement and grant those who wanted to stay there, legal residency, with all the rights of free health care, in regard of entering the labor market and education. Al-Aiban stressed that the Kingdom has accelerated the pace of protection and promotion of human rights over the past years, which witnessed a qualitative transformation and radical reforms, through a set of regulations, decisions, orders and circulars representing a broad address for the protection of human rights. The Kingdom's third report monitored the most important measures taken by the Kingdom to protect and promote human rights, in general, and during the second round of the review, in particular, he said, adding that the Kingdom has received 225 recommendations, supported 151 out of them, in full and 37 were supported, in part, and has taken note of 37 recommendations. Al-Aiban affirmed that the recommendations presented to the Kingdom have been treated as indicators to measure progress in the promotion and protection of human rights by the Human Rights Commission, which, according to its organization, monitors the implementation of the Kingdom's obligations, under the regional and international human rights conventions to which it is a party. The Head of the Delegation of the Kingdom pointed out that the Standing Committee for the preparation of the draft reports, had been established, in January 2015, as a national mechanism for the preparation of reports of the Kingdom relating to the human rights conventions, to which it had become a party, and its reports on the universal periodic review mechanism, as recommended by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, in this regard. Al-Aiban affirmed that the Kingdom is keen to promote and protect human rights and achieve sustainable development, proceeding from the principles of the Islamic Shari'a and the authentic values of the society, supported in this respect, by the wisdom and will of its leadership represented by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince, to achieve these lofty objectives, with the strong caliber entertained by its people, that is the pivot and subject of development, pointing out to the Kingdom Vision 2030, which included a number of rights, such as the right to life, the right to security, rights in health, education and training, the right to work, protection of family, empowerment of women and promotion of participation in political and public life, freedom of association and the right to support cultural participation, including, sports and recreational activities, and others.
