Dhahran, Rajab 30, 1439, April 16, 2018, SPA -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir affirmed that the 29th Arab Summit focused on various issues and challenges facing the Arab countries. In a joint press conference with Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit following the conclusion of the summit, the minister said that naming the summit as the "Jerusalem Summit" is due to the strong desire to restore importance to the Palestinian issue, which is the central and fundamental issue of the Arabs after it was affected by the growing crises in the region. "The Arab and Islamic countries feel the need to highlight this issue in light of the urgent need to help the Palestinians to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital," he said, pointing out the generous support offered by the Kingdom to its brethren in Palestine on all Arab and international occasions contributing effectively to achieving a decent life for the Palestinian people and enabling the Palestinian government to strengthen its economy. In this regard, he referred to the announcement by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, during the Summit, that the Kingdom would donate $ 150 million to the Waqf Support Program in Jerusalem and $ 50 million to support the UNRWA program. Al-Jubeir said that the Arab summit supported the military operation carried out by the United States in cooperation with Britain and France to sites belonging to the Syrian regime, which were the headquarters of the criminal operations committed against the unarmed Syrian civilians through the use of weapons containing poison gas banned internationally. He stressed the position of the member states of the League of Arab States and its belief that stability in Syria will only be achieved through a peaceful solution based on the Geneva Declaration 1, Security Council Resolution 2254 and the Riyadh 2 Conference of the Syrian Opposition held in November last year. --More 01:26 LOCAL TIME 22:26 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w668903
