Kiev, Jumada I 19, 1439, February 05, 2018, SPA -- Thousands of people took to the streets of the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Sunday to demand the ouster of President Petro Poroschenko, according to dpa. The protest was spearheaded by former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, according to Ukrainian media reports. The organizers of Sunday's rally are calling for a nationwide "March for the Future" on February 18. Saakashvili, who entered Ukraine illegally in September, has been drumming up support at rallies throughout the country for an anti-corruption campaign targeting Poroshenko. The former Georgian president is currently stateless after Ukraine stripped him of citizenship in June. His Georgian citizenship was also revoked. Poroshenko helped Saakashvili to become governor of Ukraine's prominent Odessa region on the Black Sea in 2015. But Saakashvili resigned 18 months later, accusing Poroshenko of corruption. A court in Georgia recently sentenced Saakashvili to three years in prison for abuse of office during his reign from 2004 to 2013. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, he is accused of supporting a criminal organization in a coup against Poroshenko. --SPA 03:49 LOCAL TIME 00:49 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w603254
