FM: Saudi efforts to lift sanctions on Sudan continue

Jeddah, Shawwal 25, 1438, July 19, 2017, SPA -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir affirmed that the talks between the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, with President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan were fruitful. In joint press statements with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour, the Saudi minister said that the talks dealt with issues of the region, bilateral relations and confronting the scourge of terrorism and extremism. Al-Jubeir stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Sudan have historical and strategic ties in all fields. He pointed out that a large Sudanese community resides in the Kingdom and contributes to development and is appreciated in the Kingdom. He added, "The two countries are also key partners in the Islamic alliance to confront terrorism and extremism, and partners in the coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen, and the two countries are partners in working to counter terrorism and extremism ..." He expressed the Kingdom's appreciation for Sudan's positive positions which are supportive of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing that this is not surprising between two brotherly countries. He added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is working with Sudan to improve Sudan's relations with the United States, lift sanctions imposed on Sudan and lift Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. He said, "We believe that Sudan has achieved significant progress to reach lifting these sanctions and lift the name of Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and we continue in our efforts to coordinate with Sudan and others in the region to find a solution to this situation, so that Sudan can return to its normal state and focus on development, economy and prosperity. For his part, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour expressed thanks and appreciation to the leadership of the Kingdom and its people for what they offer to Muslims all over the world and to Sudan. Minister Ghandour said that these efforts are appreciated by the Sudanese leadership and the Sudanese people, who have a special love and appreciation for the Kingdom and its leadership.
