Santiago, Dhu-AlQa'dah 16, 1437, Aug 19, 2016, SPA -- Seven train cars loaded with sodium hydroxide, salt and petroleum fell into a river in southern Chile Thursday when a rail bridge collapsed, the state railway said. No injuries were reported. The 50-car train was crossing the Tolten River in Pitrufquen, about 700 kilometers south of the capital Santiago, when the bridge, built in 1890, gave way, dpa quoted the State Railway Company (EFE) as saying. EFE initially said sodium hydroxide was leaking into the river from one of the cars, according to national daily Publimetro. But Chile's national emergency management authority Onemi said tests by water authorities appeared to show no evidence of leaks. Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye, is a caustic chemical used in industrial manufacturing and in commercial drain and oven cleaners. --SPA 14:10 LOCAL TIME 11:10 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
