Washington, Dhu-AlQa'dah 11, 1437, August 14, 2016, SPA -- Flooding in the US southern state of Louisiana was described Saturday as a "truly historic event," and the governor warned residents to brace for more rain, dpa reported. "This is a major disaster," said Governor John Bel Edwards. "This is an ongoing event and we are still in the response mode." Edwards told a news conference at least two deaths had been confirmed, and searches were continuing for more victims. The flooding began Friday after rainfall battered an area in the southern part of the state near the capital Baton Rouge. The governor declared a state of emergency, saying rivers and creeks in the area had crested at record levels. More than 1,000 people have been rescued, and firefighters were going door-to-door telling residents be prepared to leave. -- SPA 00:37 LOCAL TIME 21:37 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
