Cairo, Nov. 25, 2019, SPA -- Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed his country's rejection of the new American position towards Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. This came in a speech during the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council, held at the level of Arab foreign minister, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States here today, to discuss the new US position on Israeli settlements, in the West Bank. "My government announced a few days ago that Israel's construction of settlements is contrary to the resolutions of international legitimacy and international law, especially Security Council Resolution 2334," the Minister of Foreign Affairs said, adding that there is no doubt that it is an obstacle to the two-state solution, and will thus stand, in the way of achieving peace and stability, in the Middle East. He reiterated that resolving the Palestinian issue is the main pillar for achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace, in the Middle East, pointing out that this requires the intervention of the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards resuming the peace process negotiations, and to stop Israeli practices contrary to international laws, resolutions and norms. The Minister stressed the importance of finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue that would enable the Palestinian people to achieve all their rights, especially the establishment of an independent state with East Al-Quds as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the relevant international resolutions. The Palestinian issue is the first issue of Arabs and Muslims and the Kingdom's position towards it and the other occupied Arab territories is a consistent position, the Minister stated, pointing out that the Kingdom has spared no effort to support the Palestinian people, in the belief of the justice of their cause and the need to stop the practices and violations against it. He added that the Palestinian issue is at the heart of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is not alien to it as per the late kings of Saudi Arabia, as the Kingdom always considers it as its first issue, since the founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman. The Kingdom will continue to support the Palestinian cause until the Palestinian people attain their legitimate rights, the Minister concluded. --SPA 21:17 LOCAL TIME 18:17 GMT 0042 www.spa.gov.sa/w1216966
