Int'l Conference of Muslim Ulema on Peace and Stability in Afghanistan wraps up

Makkah, Shawwal 27, 1439, July 11, 2018, SPA -- The two-day International Conference of Muslim Ulema on Peace and Stability in Afghanistan, co-hosted by the Saudi cities of Jeddah and Makkah, concluded here today. Addressing the closing session, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General of the Jeddah-based Islamic Cooperation Organization (ICO), thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his Crown Prince, for the efforts being exerted to hold this conference. He congratulated the Afghani Ulema on the success of the conference. The participants condemned fighting among Afghani factions and called on all parties to go to peace and ceasefire. They lauded the inititive of the Afghani government to start a direct and peaceful negotiations without preconditions and recognize Taliban as a political party with agendas to share in developing the country and its rehabilitation. The conference called on Taliban movement to respond positively to the call of the Afghani government to evade violence, stop fighting and sit at a negotiating table to discuss peace and security of the country without pre-conditions. The particpants thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defense, for hosting the conference and making the initiative a success. --SPA 18:45 LOCAL TIME 15:45 GMT 0026 www.spa.gov.sa/w715575
