Arab Women Commission wraps up meeting in Tunis and Issues Gartaj Declaration

Tunis, Jumada II 14, 1439, March 02, 2018, SPA -- The Arab Women Commission concluded its 37th session which started earlier today in Tunis, confirming the importance of continuing work for the protection of the economic, social and political rights of the Arab women. In a statement known as Gartaj Declaration, the Commission asserted the keenness of developing the laws and legislations and eliminating all kinds of segregation to enhance the status of women and preserve its humanitarian dignity. It urged for exchange of experiences and expertise and successful practices at the Arab and international levels. It asserted putting an Arab strategy to confront the phenomenon of illegal migration of women and young girls and putting an end to human disasters and their repercussions and guaranteeing the respect of rights of refugees. It called for upgrading the Women Commission affiliating the Arab League to a ministerial council for women affairs, to be comprising minsters and chairwomen of local mechanisms in charge of women affairs in the Arab world.
