Prague, Jumada I 04, 1439, January 21, 2018, SPA -- At least two people were killed and dozens injured in a fire at a hotel in Prague on Saturday, local authorities have said, according to dpa. Nine people were taken to hospital, including two who were in a critical condition after being resuscitated, according to Ondrej Franek, an emergency services spokesman. Around 30 guests at the hotel in the Czech capital were also treated by medical staff at the scene and given oxygen, he added. The blaze prompted a major operation by firefighters, who were able to extinguish the flames but the historical building's interior was still filled with smoke. Fire safety officials reported difficulties in responding to the emergency due to the building's winding corridors and stairways. Two firefighters were injured as a result of falling in the dark. The fire is thought to have started on one of the hotel's floors. The exact cause was not yet known. Smoke from the blaze was spread to other areas by the building's air conditioning system. Authorities did not give details on the nationalities of the two victims. The hotel, known as Eurostars David, is situated in Prague's New Town on the banks of the Vltava river. More than 7 million tourists visit the Czech capital every year. Eight foreign tourists were killed in a deadly fire at a hotel in the city in 1995. --SPA 02:41 LOCAL TIME 23:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w592022
