OIC Advisory Committee for Women to Hold its Second Meeting at the Headquarters of the General Secretariat in Jeddah

Jeddah, Rabi' I 28, 1439 H., December 16, 2017, SPA – The Advisory Committee for Women within the Framework of the Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in the Development of OIC Member States will hold its second meeting on 18 December 2017 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Jeddah, at the invitation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and in coordination with the Ministry of Family and Social Policy of the Republic of Turkey, the chair of the current session of the Ministerial Conference on Women. Attending the meeting is Her Excellency Fatima Batool, Minister of Family and Social Policy, Republic of Turkey, and Her Excellency Esra Albarac, Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for Women. The meeting will address, according to its agenda, a presentation on the report of the implementation of the recommendations of the first meeting of the Committee held on 18 May in Istanbul on the monitoring of the implementation of the decisions of the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Women. It will also address the efforts to be made by the Women's Advisory Committee to follow-up on the implementation of OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW), and the challenges faced by the process of empowering women in the Member States, especially the difficult conditions experienced by women in areas of conflict and under occupation. The meeting will also address the contributions of the Committee in the preparations for the seventh session of the Ministerial Conference on Women, to be held in Burkina Faso in 2018, with the aim of activating the OIC role in the field of women’s empowerment and the advancement of their status. Furthermore, the meeting will consider the contribution of the Advisory Committee in the implementation of the project of establishing the OIC Award for the Achievements of Women, and ways to strengthen the partnership with the parties tasked with the empowerment of women in order to activate the role of the Organisation in this field. --SPA 13:28 LOCAL TIME 10:28 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w564545
