Council of Arab League condemns Iranian interference in region

Cairo, Rabi'I 01, 1439, November 19, 2017, SPA -- The Council of the Arab League condemned the launching of an Iranian-made ballistic missile from Yemeni territory by the pro-Iranian coup Al-Huthi and Saleh militia which targeted the capital, Riyadh, as a flagrant aggression against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a threat to Arab security. This came in the final communique of an emergency meeting held today by the Council of the Arab League at the level of foreign ministers to discuss the Iranian threats to the countries of the region. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo. The Saudi delegation to the meeting was led by Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmad Al-Jubeir. The Council affirmed the right of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to defend its territory in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations and to support it in the proceedings which are to be taken by it against those Iranian violations within the framework of international legitimacy. The Council condemned all acts of terrorism carried out by Iran in the Kingdom of Bahrain, most recently the bombing of the Bahraini oil pipeline as a terrorist act by a group backed by Iran and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The Council condemned the continuing Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain by supporting terrorism, training terrorists, smuggling arms and explosives, inciting sectarian strife and continuing statements at various levels to destabilize security, order and stability and establishing terrorist groups in Bahrain funded and trained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the terrorist Lebanese Hezbollah which is contrary to good-neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law. The Council affirmed the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain in all measures and steps taken to combat terrorism and terrorist groups to maintain its security and stability. The Council noted the efforts of the security services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain, which succeeded in thwarting many terrorist plots and arresting the members of the terrorist organizations entrusted with the implementation of these schemes, supported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Lebanese terrorist Hezbollah. The Council condemned Iran's continued occupation of the three islands of the United Arab Emirates, Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, and supported all peaceful measures taken by the United Arab Emirates to restore its sovereignty over its occupied islands in accordance with international law. --More 00:04 LOCAL TIME 21:04 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w541178
