Hoboken, Dhu-AlHijjah 28, 1437, September 29, 2016, SPA -- At least 3 people were killed and more than 100 injured, some critically, when a New Jersey Transit train derailed and crashed through the station in Hoboken, New Jersey during the morning rush hour Thursday, local media and officials said. MSNBC, citing medical officials, reported that three people were killed. “We have multiple injuries, multiple critical injuries right now,” said Jennifer Nelson, a spokeswoman for NJ Transit. “The terminal is shut down.” She said she did not know how fast the train was moving when it hit the rail bumper at the end of the line. Television footage and images posted by commuters showed damage to a rail car and extensive structural damage to the Hoboken station, where the train came to a halt in a covered area between the station’s indoor waiting area and the platform. A metal structure covering the area collapsed, scattering debris and wreckage. ABC News reported on its website that many passengers were trapped. The train departed Spring Valley, New York at 7:23 a.m. and crashed into Hoboken Terminal at 8:45 a.m., said NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder. -- SPA 23:30 LOCAL TIME 20:30 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
