Abuja, Dhu-AlHijjah 24, 1437, Sep 25, 2016, SPA -- Twenty-six people were killed when soldiers clashed with members of militant group Boko Haram in north-eastern Nigeria, an army spokesman said Sunday, dpa reported. The insurgents attacked an army base in the village of Logomani, in Borno State, with rockets and hand grenades, according to spokesman Colonel Sani Usman. Among the dead were 22 Boko Haram members and four soldiers, the spokesman said. The army regained control over their barracks after about an hour of combat, Usman added. Boko Haram poses a steady threat to communities in the north-east of Nigeria and has also launched offensives in neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon. Since 2009, at least 14,000 people have died at the hands of the fundamentalists in Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger. According to the United Nations, an estimated 2.7 million people in the region have fled their homes due to Boko Haram. -- SPA 23:20 LOCAL TIME 20:20 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
