Kabul, Dhu-AlQa'dah 20, 1437, August 23, 2016, SPA -- A US soldier was killed by a roadside mine in Afghansitan's heavily embattled Helmand province on Tuesday, according to a statement from US forces in the country, dpa reported. One US soldier and six Afghan soldiers were also wounded in the blast in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand, while on a patrol, the statement said. The US soldier "is currently in stable condition," it added. The soldier who died was killed while "conducting Train, Advise, Assist activities with Afghan counterparts under NATO authorities," the statement said. Nearly 100 US troops have recently been sent to the embattled province, spokesman General Charles Cleveland told media on Monday. "They have not joined Afghan forces in ground operations so far," Colonel Mohammad Rasool Zazai, a public affairs officer for the Helmand army corps, said of the US troops. --SPA 17:07 LOCAL TIME 14:07 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
