Bangkok, Dhu-AlQa'dah 8, 1437, Aug 11, 2016, SPA -- At least 1 person has died and 17 more are injured after two explosions at a Thai tourist resort late Thursday, the police public radio station said. According to the police, two explosions hit shortly before midnight at the popular Thai tourist resort of Hua Hin, 198 kilometers south of Bangkok. Police say that one Thai vendor has died and two more are in critical condition. Victims have been sent to nearby hospitals. Edwin Wiek, a resident of Hua Hin who was at the scene, told dpa by phone that there were foreign tourists among the injured. Wiek said that the blasts occurred at an intersection with many bars that are frequented by local and foreign tourists alike. According to Nation TV, police say that they are not treating the blast as an accident and will be sending in Explosive Ordinance Disposal Units (EODs) to investigate. The blast comes one day before the long weekend celebrating the Queen's birthday which is also Mother's Day to Thais. Many Thais had already made their way to spend the extended break at the seaside resort. The blast also comes less than a week after a nationwide constitutional referendum run by the military government which saw a military-drafted constitution approved by the populace. -- SPA 23:58 LOCAL TIME 20:58 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
