Jeddah, Shawwal 26, 1437, Jul 31, 2016, SPA -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the resumption of clashes between self-defense Groups of Imghad Touareg and their allies (GATIA) and the Azawad Movements Coordination (AMC) in the Tassik area, South-East of the Kidal region, on Saturday 30 July 2016. The Secretary General, Iyad bin Ameen Madani, called for the cessation of hostilities and underlined that the events of Kidal of 21-22 July 2016 that had claimed so many lives were intolerable, go counter of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali. The repetitive violations of the cease-fire constitute serious infractions of the Agreement, he said. The Secretary General also expressed his concerns for the preservation of the lives of innocent citizens and the right of the populations in Northern Mali to live in conditions of peace and security. He stressed that any differences between the armed groups signatories of the Agreement must be resolved through dialogue and within the framework of the Agreement. Madani appealed to GATIA and AMC and to all other fighting factions to effect an immediate cessation of hostilities and exhorted them to weigh the consequences of their acts on the future of peace and reconciliation in Mali. He recalled that the implementation of the Agreement is a joint responsibility for all the signatory parties and that the OIC will keep up its efforts, within the international community, in this spirit, for the return of peace and stability in Mali and the region. --SPA 19:08 LOCAL TIME 16:08 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
