New York, Rajab 08, 1437, April 15, 2016, SPA -- General Motors on Friday ordered a large recall of pickup trucks sold in North America, Latin America and the Middle East because of possible defects in their safety belts, according to dpa. The largest US carmaker said more than 1 million Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks made for model years 2014 and 2015 were affected. The problem is the steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can separate over time, GM said in a statement. This occurs as a result of the driver repeatedly bending the cable when entering the seat, the company said. The total number of trucks to be recalled globally is 1,037,982. Nearly 900,000 of them were sold in the United States. Those sold outside the US market, a total of more than 140,000 vehicles, were sold in Canada, Mexico, some Latin American countries and the Middle East. Customers will be notified by GM. They also can look up their vehicle identification number at a government or GM website to see if their vehicle is part of the recall. The recall includes a stop on the sale of about 3,000 trucks for the 2014 and 2015 model year pickups still on dealer lots. The trucks must be repaired before the vehicles can be delivered to customers. GM knows of no accidents or injuries related to the defect, its statement said. The group does not expect significant costs from the recall. --SPA 22:50 LOCAL TIME 19:50 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
