Jeddah, February 3, 2020, SPA -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held here today the Extraordinary open-ended Executive Committee Meeting at the Level of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States to discuss the Organization’s position in light of developments of the Palestinian cause and Al-Quds Al-Sharif after the American administration announced its peace plan on January 28. At the outset of the meeting, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a speech in which he stressed the extreme importance of this meeting, where Islamic countries and the Palestinian cause are experiencing a delicate and important stage. The Foreign Minister said that in this sensitive stage that the Palestinian cause is going through, we must be reminded that the OIC was established in the wake of the incident of burning Al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds Al-Sharif. It was established to serve as the collective voice of the Islamic world and the defender of its states' issues and interests, seeking to achieve stability and security of their peoples. The Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Palestinian cause will remain the first central issue of this organization, as the multiplicity of regional and international issues and crises that are present in our contemporary reality will not affect that. He added that there is no doubt that we in this prestigious organization are required more than ever to show solidarity with the Palestinian people in defense of their just cause and the sanctuary of Al-Aqsa Mosque. At the end of his speech, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stands in the light of these regional and international changes alongside the Palestinian people and supports them for their choices in a way that achieves their hopes and aspirations. He also stressed the need for serious work and efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, that ensures the rights of the Palestinian people and restores their legitimate rights. --SPA 14:59 LOCAL TIME 11:59 GMT 0010 www.spa.gov.sa/w1258804
