Geneva, Muharram 20, 1438, Oct 21, 2016, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has welcomed the convening of a special session of the Human Rights Council to discuss deterioration of the human rights situation in Aleppo in light of the serious, violent and unprecedented escalation committed by the Syrian regime and its allies in bombing and targeting the civilian innocents, civilian facilities and hospitals in eastern Aleppo which resulted in killing of hundreds and injuring of thousands. These actions represent flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and human rights. Addressing the Human Rights Council in Geneva today, ambassador Faisal Trad, the Kingdom's representative to the United Nations, said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had called since three weeks ago during 33rd session of the council for immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities in Aleppo and unconditional access of the humanitarian aid, adding that "we meet today to remind the world of the crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by the regime of Bashar Assad and its allies against the Syrian people, particularly in the east of Aleppo, under the pretext of combating terrorism where the Syrian regime continues to target women and children as well as destruct schools and hospitals." --More 14:16 LOCAL TIME 11:16 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
