Damascus, Rabi'II 1, 1437, Jan 11, 2016, SPA -- Trucks bringing food and medicine to a besieged Syrian town near the Lebanese border began entering the town Monday, part of a large-scale U.N.-supported aid operation in the war-ravaged country. An Associated Press team saw three trucks enter Madaya, where a group of residents had gathered, hoping to receive desperately needed assistance. The town, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northwest of Damascus, has been blockaded for months by Syrian regime's army and its allies. Opposition activists and aid groups have reported several deaths from starvation in recent weeks. Simultaneously, trucks began entering the villages of Foua and Kfarya in northern Syria, AP reported. --SPA 19:43 LOCAL TIME 16:43 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
