Philippines issues flood, landslide alert ahead of heavy rains =

Manila, Rabi'I 7, 1437, Dec 18, 2015, SPA -- The Philippines issued a warning against flash floodsand landslides in its southern regions as a tropical depression threatened a return of heavy rains Friday, dpa reported. Tropical depression Onyok, the second storm to hit the country in a week, was expected to make landfall in Mindanao later in the day. Onyok, packing sustained winds of 55 kilometres per hour (kph), is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area passing the western Philippines early Sunday. On Monday, typhoon Melor pummeled the eastern and central Philippines, disrupting power and communications, destroying homes and killing at least 14 people, with two more still missing. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, estimated the damages to crop, infrastructure and property caused by Melor at 935.19 million pesos (19.68 million dollars). --SPA 12:35 LOCAL TIME 09:35 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
