GCC Secretary General : region's peoples want safe, stable, prosperous and sustainable region

Manama, Muharram 17, 1437, October 30, 2015, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, stressed that the peoples of the region do not want wars, bloodshed and humanitarian disasters that currently afflicting their region, but they want to see it a secure, stable, prosperous, sustainable and mass destruction weapons free zone, pointing out that the citizens of the region have a chance for a decent living away from such atrocities and tragedies. Dr. Al Zayani explained that terrorism arose from the chaos and the security vacuum that followed Iraq's 2003 war. He said that these chaos and security vacuum were exploited by the forces of evil, led by the terrorist "Daash" organization which is currently controlling parts of Syria and Iraq, stressing that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories was and still the excuse for all forms of extremism and violence, including violence fueled by the Israeli state. This came in a speech delivered by the GCC Secretary General in a panel discussion within the Regional Security Summit Manama Dialogue which began here Friday. During his speech, Dr. Al-Zayani confirmed that "Daash" organization could be militarily defeated in the event of unity of purpose, increasing coordination of Coalition efforts and when the political and private interests set aside. He expressed the hope that Iran, after the lifting of economic sanctions, use its money wisely for the benefit of its people and the region, and positively work to enhance the security and stability of the region. He called to revive the peace process in the Middle East, stressing the need to fight extremism, restore stability and achieve maximum cooperation among the region's countries.
