Rome, Dhu-AlHijjah 24, 1436, October 08, 2015, SPA -- Rome's controversial mayor Ignazio Marino announced that he had stepped down Thursday following the latest scandal to hit him, this time involving expenses, Ansa news agency reported, according to dpa. The former transplant surgeon and politician from Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party (PD) had faced months of accusations that he was too easy on organized criminals and that he was involved in corruption. The latest scandal involved the use of a city credit card to pay for private meals.
