Close to 200 killed in South Sudan tanker blast

Juba, Dhu-AlHijjah 5, 1436, Sep 19, 2015, SPA -- The death toll in the explosion of a fuel tanker in South Sudan has reached 194, an official confirmed Saturday. "As of today it is confirmed that at least 194 are now known to have died and more deaths may occur," said Charles Barnba Kisanga, the information minister from Western Equatoria state. According to dpa, many of the injured, who suffered severe burns, remain in critical condition after the accident Wednesday outside the south-western city of Maridi. Kisanga said there were about 120 patients in a hospital in Maridi, and that 54 people were being treated in the capital, Juba. Patients were evacuated to Juba to relieve the overstretched hospital in Maridi.
