Valletta, Shawwal 20, 1436, Aug 5, 2015, SPA -- A major rescue operation is under way after a boat with some 700 migrants capsized off Libya, Times of Malta reported on Wednesday. The scale of the incident is not yet known, though sources said around 100 migrants have been rescued though many remain in the water, dpa reported. The Doctors Without Borders (MSF) rescue vessel Dignity is close to the area to offer first assistance but at least three other vessels are heading to offer rescue. The incident took place some 22 nautical miles north of Zuwarah. It is likely to be the biggest migrant incident since some 800 migrants drowned in a single incident off Lampedusa last April. The incident triggered off a major EU effort to beef up rescue operations closer to Libya, where many are fleeing. -- SPA 17:07 LOCAL TIME 14:07 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
