United Nations, Jumada I 16, 1436, Mar 7, 2015, SPA -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concern Friday over the decision by Palestinian leaders in the occupied West Bank to halt security coordination with Israel, and he called for the international community to push for a comprehensive peace deal. The U.N. chief "urges both parties to exercise utmost restraint and reverse their unhelpful cycle of actions and counter-actions," said U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric. "The secretary-general repeats his call on Israel to resume the transfer of tax revenues legally due to the Palestinian Authority." The Palestinian Central Council said Thursday it made the decision because Israel had violated bilateral agreements, including withholding tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinians. Israel has frozen $127 million of monthly Palestinian tax revenues. The tax money covers about two-thirds of the Palestinian budget and is used to pay tens of thousands of public-sector employees. --SPA 13:31 LOCAL TIME 10:31 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
