UNITED NATIONS, Rabi’I 24, 1436, Jan. 15, 2015, SPA -- U.N.-led talks meant to ease the political and security crisis in Libya continued into its second day Thursday as national stakeholders and the U.N. Support Mission (UNSMIL) in the country resumed meetings in Geneva. “Discussions during the first session on Wednesday (January 13) were constructive and were conducted in a positive atmosphere,” UNSMIL said in a statement Thursday. “There was a clear sense of determination among the participants to ensure that this dialogue succeeds, and they look forward for more discussions today.” The agreement to hold the new dialogue comes after consultations with the parties by UNSMIL chief Bernardino Leon over the past several weeks, after the first round of talks stalled last October. Leon has proposed to the parties to the conflict a “freeze” in military operations for a few days. --SPA 18:27 LOCAL TIME 15:27 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
