Freetown, Safar 03, 1436, November 25, 2014, SPA -- An Ebola burial team Tuesday went on strike in eastern Sierra Leone's third-largest city, abandoning 15 highly contagious corpses in the street, dpa reported. Burial workers at the hospital in Kenema launched the strike to protest unpaid salaries, health workers said. Two dead bodies were dumped at the entrance to the hospital, blocking access to the facility. "We will abandon the dead bodies until they pay the backlog," said health worker, Musa Kanneh. Salaries have not been paid since October. Health officials said abandoning corpses was irresponsible. Police have been deployed to the hospital to avoid further dumping of bodies. Sierra Leone has been one of the countries hardest hit by an Ebola outbreak that killed 5,459 people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The number of people who have become infected with Ebola has reached 15,351 in eight countries, since the outbreak started in Guinea in December, according to WHO. -- SPA 18:25 LOCAL TIME 15:25 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
