Washington, Dhu-AlHijjah 29, 1435, Oct 23, 2014, SPA -- A 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit Alaska near Fairbanks early Thursday with no initial reports of damage or injuries, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. The quake's epicenter was located roughly 70 kilometers west-northwest of Fairbanks, the largest city in the interior region of Alaska and third largest in the state, and originated at a depth of 14 kilometers, USGS said. According to an Alaska State Trooper dispatcher, the agency had not received any emergency calls to report damage or injuries. There was no threat of a tsunami. The quake, which struck in the same area as a 5.0 magnitude earthquake Monday, likely produced light shaking in and around Fairbanks but was unlikely to produce damage, USGS said. --SPA 22:29 LOCAL TIME 19:29 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
