King Salman Pushes Saudi-US Cooperation to new Phase

Riyadh, Dhu-AlQa'dah 19, 1436, September 03, 2015, SPA -- The history of relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States dates back to 1931, when the promise of commercial oil production in the country began, Then, the late King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud granted the right of oil exploration to an American company, followed by the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two countries in 1933 supporting this important economic side, which has become a global economic force in this day and age. After 12 years of the aforementioned agreement, the late king boosted the bilateral relations with the United States with a historic meeting with US President Franklin D. Roosevelt on board a US ship on February 14, 1945. The historic meeting was described as a turning point in transforming the Kingdom's relations with America to a strategic alliance in various fields. Since then, the kingdom has worked to harness this relationship and other international relations in meeting its national interests with the countries of the world including America and serving the Arab and Islamic nations' issues. The late King Abdulaziz laid a wise policy for the Kingdom based on the principles of Islamic law, which respects good-neighborliness, and strengthening its relations with the international community without prejudice to its religious firm principles as well as working to bolster its regional and international position in various fields without interfering in the affairs of others, and rejecting any policy of interfering in its own affairs, imposing its respect on the countries of the world, and becoming an active member of various international forums and organizations.
