Mexico City, Jumada II 13, 1436, April 02, 2015, SPA -- The Mexican state-owned oil company raised the death toll to four in Wednesday’s offshore oil-rig fire in the Gulf of Mexico. The fire happened at a Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) dehydration and pumping platform known as Abkatun Permanente, located in Campeche Sound on the west side of the Yucatan Peninsula. Initially, Pemex said one contractor was killed and 16 Pemex workers were hurt, including two hospitalized in grave condition. Local emergency services, however, said as many as 45 people were injured. About 300 workers were evacuated from the platform while eight vessels arrived to fight the blaze, Pemex said. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. Pemex has suffered several accidents in recent years, with at least 37 people killed in an explosion at the company’s Mexico City headquarters in 2013. Another 26 people were killed in a fire in a Pemex natural-gas facility in 2012. --SPA 12:20 LOCAL TIME 09:20 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
