Washington, December 7, 2021, SPA -- The U.S. State Department affirmed that the United States stands by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against the Houthi's terrorist attacks, indicating that the Houthis are the obstacle preventing the progress of a diplomatic solution in Yemen. The U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price said, during the daily press briefing, we stand with our partners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which was subjected to terrorist attacks by the Houthis, and condemn their attack and affirm our support for the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He added: The Houthis have shown their lack of seriousness in resolving the conflict through their actions on the ground, including their attack on Marib and their continuous attacks against the Kingdom, which could cause serious harm to civilians and constitute an obstacle to diplomatic solutions at the present time. "Our Special Envoy is working closely with his UN counterpart, Hans Grundberg, to do everything in our power to ensure a ceasefire to address the urgent humanitarian and economic priorities for the resumption of the political process in Yemen," Price said. He further added, "The reprehensible behavior of the Houthis has helped unite the world against them to prove to the world that, at least for the time being, they are not interested in diplomacy and do not seem interested in peace. Our goal is to change that by working with our Saudi partners, and working with the government of the Republic of Yemen, as well as working with other partners in the region to move the diplomatic process to see if we can establish a ceasefire and increase humanitarian aid delivery to the Yemeni people. Price drew attention to the fact that the Yemeni people, who are suffering the most, primarily have suffered from the Houthis through their constant attacks and unwillingness to allow adequate flow of humanitarian aid to parts of the country that still represent the world's worst ongoing humanitarian catastrophe. -- SPA 05:55 LOCAL TIME 02:55 GMT 0005 www.spa.gov.sa/w1661230
