The Hague, Oct. 5, 2021, SPA -- Saudi Ambassador to The Netherlands Ziad Al-Atiyah, who is also the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to the Organization of Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), participated in the 98th session of OPCW Executive Council being held between October 5 and 8 in The Hague. In a key speech, Al-Atiyah renewed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unaltered position in making the Middle East a zone free of all weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons, and the utmost concern it places to the Chemical Weapons Convention, out of its belief in the convention's goals and role in enhancing international peace and security. He also stressed the importance of the convention's contents in the fields of economic development, technology and international cooperation on chemical activities, mainly transferring technology, equipment and expertise related to the non-prohibited chemical industries under the convention to developing countries, which will contribute to enhancing the international economic development and benefiting all parties, referring to the establishment of the new Center for Chemistry and Technology that is considered a turning point in the progress of the organization and a bridge to realize the aspirations of state parties, mainly in the field of transferring technology and technical assistance. --SPA 18:36 LOCAL TIME 15:36 GMT 0018 www.spa.gov.sa/w1631022
