Tunis, Sep. 15, 2021, SPA -- The Tunis-based Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers today hosted the seventh meeting for human rights officials in Arab interior ministries. The event was held with the participation of human rights officials at the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Riyadh-based Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. Secretary General of Arab Interior Ministers Council Dr. Mohammad bin Ali Kuman, in his speech at the inauguration session, stressed that discussing human rights respect within the context of fighting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is an occasion to review the successful experiment and best practices of member states in the field. He considered keenness to exchange experiments and share best practices as a supporter for the permanent item on the agenda of the conference, which is related to the experiments of Arab interior ministries in the human rights field, which annually allows three member states to review reports on the taken procedures to support respecting human rights. He noted that preparing a model vision for these reports and the recommendations of the previous conference through including a special section to include human rights violations by security apparatuses – if any – would add credibility to these report and consequently contribute to abolishing many claims of human rights violations and changing the negative stereotype that some pretend. Kuman added that the Arab guidebook of model procedures to protect victims and witnesses in cases of human rights violations, which is on the agenda of the conference, constitutes an important step towards facing these accusations, which will play a role in encouraging reporting such acts and offering testimonies. --SPA 20:24 LOCAL TIME 17:24 GMT 0025 www.spa.gov.sa/w1618748
