New York, Muharram 1, 1438 H., September 21, 2017, SPA -- Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al-Owaisheq, Assistant Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council for Political Affairs and Negotiations, has had talks with UN Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca on the fringes of the UN General Assembly's 72nd session. During the meeting, which took place in New York yesterday, Jenca expressed appreciation of the effective role being played by the GCC countries in preserving security and stability in the region, and support for the UN efforts to enhance international security and peace. He suggested convening regular periodic consultative meetings between the GCC secretariat general and the UN secretariat general to enhance joint political cooperation. Also, he lauded the GCC effort in support of the UN efforts and its envoys in each of Yemen, Syria, Libya and Iraq. During the meeting, the issue of the Rohingya Muslim people was discussed, with Jenca noting that the Myanmar government is hindering the flow of humanitarian and relief assistance to the needy inside Myanmar. The meeting discussed the role of the GCC countries in the fight against terrorism. Jenca disclosed that the UN has established an office in New York to coordinate the work of the UN terrorism-combat-related organizations in the immigrants and displaced zones. For his part, Dr. Al-Owaisheq lauded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's donation to the UN center for combating terror worth $100 million.
