Geneva, Dhu-AlHijjah 28, 1437, Sep 29, 2016, SPA -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States has welcomed the provision of the first report, dated on 15th of August 2016 by Yemeni National Investigation Committee, which was compatible with international standards and a high level of seriousness, as it monitored 9816 cases of violation of human rights and international humanitarian law against citizens in Yemen. In a joint speech delivered today by the representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Faisal Trad, it stressed that the GCC's member states don't see a justification for the invitation by the United Nations High Commissioner for the formation of an international commission of inquiry, as the National Investigation Committee of Yemen has made great strides in the direction of accountability, calling on the Human Rights Council to provide adequate support for this Committee in accordance with its needs. The Council also commended the work of the Yemeni National Investigation Committee which was set up by legitimate President of Yemen, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, confirming that this Committee is the most important safeguards against impunity and non-accountability for the violations that have been committed in Yemen. --More 13:31 LOCAL TIME 10:31 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
