Riyadh, Jumada II 27, 1438, Mar 26, 2017, SPA -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in collaboration with the European Union (EU) organized a symposium, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaty, in the presence of the GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Hamad Al-Owaishek and Head of EU Delegation to the GCC Michele Cervone d'Urso, at the GCC headquarters, in Riyadh. Dr. Al-Owaishek spoke about establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which since inception has sought to achieve deep integration and unity on five parallel tracks: political, military, internal security, economic growth and social development affairs, pointing out that GCC counter-Terrorism Promise is one of the priorities of the GCC and EU. The Council has a common strategy to combat terrorism. Member States are coordinated at three levels: the political or strategic level, the operational level, and the intellectual level in confronting the terrorist discourse. He also highlighted common issues of mutual interests and policies towards them, in both the GCC and the European Union blocs and their relevant member states, praising the tangible progress in the political and security dialogue between the two regional blocks, and the level of trade exchange, stressing the need for more joint efforts to spread the correct knowledge, in Europe about the GCC and the GCC countries. . The 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaty is of particular importance in this region, which has important aspirations in many economic, security, political and other fields, Ambassador Michele Cervone d'Urso of the EU to the GCC stated, for his part. D'Urso laid emphasis on the importance of the EU alliance with Saudi Arabia, in particular and all GCC member states, in general.
