Dhaka, Rabi'II 05, 1438, January 03, 2017, SPA -- At least two people died in Bangladesh Tuesday when they tried to flee their homes as an earthquake jolted Bangladesh and parts of north-eastern India Tuesday, dpa quoted officials as saying. A teenager died after she fell down the staircase as her family hurried to get out of a four-storey building in north-eastern Sunamganj district, local government official Muktadir Ahmed said. Separately, a 60-year old man died after he was hit by a metallic structure as he tried to get out of his home, Ahmed said. He noted that several others were injured when they jumped out of their buildings. The epicentre of the 5.5-magnitude earthquake was in the Ambasa area of India's north-east, near the Bangladesh-India border, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake struck at around 3:09 pm (0909 GMT) and lasted for nearly a minute. -- SPA 22:45 LOCAL TIME 19:45 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w305707
