Tokyo, Dhu-AlQa'dah 19, 1437, August 22, 2016, SPA -- A powerful typhoon made landfall near Tokyo on Monday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the Japanese capital and surrounding areas, dpa reported. Tens of thousands of residents were urged to evacuate their homes in Tokyo and in neighbouring prefectures as weather authorities warned of mudslides, flooding, swollen rivers and high waves in the regions. Some areas, including the cities of Ome and Iruma, saw a record rainfall of about 100 millimetres per hour, local media reported. Typhoon Mindulle made landfall at the city of Tateyama, 80 kilometres south of Tokyo, at around 12:30 pm (0330 GMT), the Japan Meteorological Agency said. More than 100 train services and 425 flights were cancelled because of the bad weather conditions, broadcaster NHK reported. --SPA 11:13 LOCAL TIME 08:13 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
